  a Sunday morning course
Meditation & Buddhism

with Gen Sangdak at Mahasiddha Buddhist Centre
on Sun 24th February '08 , 9am - 1pm
meditation

Meditation is a way of calming and controlling the mind and is good for everyone. We all need inner peace, - without inner peace there is no happiness. Meditation very effectively improves our mental and physical well-being, reduces high blood pressure, improves our immune system, and gives us great joy in our daily life.

Buddhism teaches us to look within ourself for the inner peace and happiness we seek. By learning to develop a more positive outlook, and in particular by deepening our compassion and wisdom, we can improve the quality of our own life and gain great power to help others.

Book of the Month  -   Joyful Path of Good Fortune

Joyful PathThe great Indian Pandit Atisha arranged all Budddha’s teachings in the order in which they are to be practiced. This special arrangement became known as the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment, or Lamrim.

In Joyful Path of Good Fortune, Geshe Kelsang provides a systematic, step-by-step commentary to these teachings rendering them completely accessible to the modern reader.

Some thinks to think about

In Friendly Letter, Nagarjuna says:

Just as the earth supports all life,
So moral discipline is the foundation of all good qualities.

in the Vinaya Sutras Buddha says:

For every action we perform we experince a similar result.

in Introduction to Buddhism Geshe-la says:

We may think that at least people who lead a simple life in the country must be content, but, if we look at their situation, we shall find that even farmers search for but do not get what they want. Their lives are full of problems and anxieties and they do not enjoy real peace and satisfaction. Their livelihoods depend upon many uncertain factors beyond their control, such as the weather. Farmers have no more freedom from discontent than businessmen who live and work in the city. Businessmen look smart and efficient as they set off to work each morning carrying their briefcase but, although they look so smooth on the outside, in their hearts they carry many dissatisfactions. They are still searching for but not finding what they want.

All of Geshe-las books are available for purchase from the Mahasiddha Centre, alternatively come and make use of our library and enjoy some inner peace and a nice cuppa tea.
