Book of the month

eshEight Steps to Happiness

As a commentary to one of Buddhism’s best-loved and most enduring teachings, Eight Verses of Training the Mind by the great Tibetan Bodhisattva Langri Tangpa, this book explains how to transform every moment of our life into a step on the path to inner peace, and in particular how to transform all of life’s difficulties into truly liberating experiences.

Some thinks to think about

In King of Concentration Sutra, Buddha says:

Magicians emanate various things
Such as horses, elephants and chariots.
These things do not truly exist;
You should know all phenomena in the same way.

in Guide to the Bodhisattvas Way of Life Shantideva says:

It is not possible to subdue unruly beings
Who are as extensive as space;
But simply destroying the mind of anger
Is the same as overcoming all these foes.

in Universal Compassion Geshe-la says:

If the roof of our house is leaking and water is dripping through the ceiling, we do not sit back and do nothing - we try to find the hole and mend it. Similarly, when we experience suffering we should consider its cause, non-virtuous actions, and apply the remedy, purification. Rather than being preoccupied with the suffering itself we should apply the solution.

All of Geshe-las books are available for purchase from the Mahasiddha Centre, alternatively come and make use of our library and enjoy some inner peace and a nice cuppa tea.
